Don't Miss the Small Stuff

January 26, 2018

We’re in the thick of cold and flu season, and I’ve been hit hard this year. By my calculations, I've eaten almost 200 Halls cough drops.

After keeping the cough drop industry afloat for a couple weeks, I had quite the pile of discarded wrappers in my trash can. I hadn’t paid much attention to these crumpled wrappers, but after 12 days of continuously popping cough drops, something on the wrapper caught my eye.

On every single wrapper, there were inspirational phrases. Phrases like “Turn can do into can did,” “Bet on yourself,” and “Don’t try harder, do harder!” The company catch phrase is actually “A Pep Talk in Every Drop.”

Unbeknownst to me, I was throwing away phrases that were meant to help me! I was so wrapped up in being sick that I missed a small thing that could have brightened my day.

Sometimes, in work and in life, we are so focused on the big picture – the project that needs to get done, the deadline that needs to get met – that we miss out on smaller moments happening around us.

I was literally throwing these moments away.

This week, don’t discard the small moments, cherish them.

Until next time…we are Advoco, make every minute count.
