The Rent is Due

April 21, 2017

I’m a firm believer that if you change the way you think, you can change the world. One major thought I’ve taken to heart that I would like to challenge you with is: “The rent is due!

I was listening to an interview with a little-known writer named Rory Vaden. In that interview Vaden talks about a concept called the “The Rent Axiom.” The concept is that nothing in life is ever truly owned, it is only rented. No matter how successful or unsuccessful you are, that success is not owned, nor is it guaranteed. As such, the rent is due every single day

This concept resonates with me because it is so easy to grasp – rent is something that is due all the time. You cannot avoid it, you cannot stop it, and you cannot hide from it because rent is due every day.  When we take this concept to heart, it will alter the way we think, work, and act.

For instance:

  • Job satisfaction is never owned, it is only rented, and the rent is due every single day.

  • Being in great physical health is never owned, it is only rented, and the rent is due every single day.

  • A happy marriage is never owned, it is only rented, and the rent is due every single day.

  • Your asset’s reliability and uptime is never owned, it is only rented, and the rent is due every single day.

  • Your EAM current capabilities is never owned, it is only rented, and the rent is due every single day.

I think you’re starting to get the point. No matter how successful you’ve been in the past or how unsuccessful you were yesterday, it is not who you need to be today. Every day we have the chance to do something great if we just remember: the rent is due every single day

Until next time…We are Advoco, make every minute count.
