Insights from a 100 Year Old

I recently read this article, and it was something I knew I should share as an a-Minute. The article highlights people that are 100 years old and are still active. The people written about in this article were still running and even teaching yoga. Orville Rogers is a 100-year-old World War II veteran and regularly runs track races. He is one of the subjects of the article, and there is a great quote from him: “Some people think I run because I can, but that’s backward. I can because I do.” We are able to stay active because we stay active. That means stay physically active, but it also means stay mentally active as well. Keep working, keep learning, keep trying new things. To quote Tom Petty

Event Recap: New York Metro Area Infor EAM Summit

Earlier this month we spent some time in NYC at the first ever NY Metro Area Infor EAM Summit. Infor EAM users and experts gathered together to dive into the product and look toward future growth. The theme and topic of conversation was the Power of Visualization. In today’s digital age, visualization is vital to our lives, so why should our organizations operate differently? How can we expect our stakeholders to understand what is going on if we just share numbers without reference? Visualization is changing the asset management landscape and helping you become more efficient and gather better data. Are you taking full advantage? If you weren’t able to join us, check out this event recap th

Do you have a Job, a Career, or a Calling?

As part of the Advoco Book Club, I recently read Big Potential by Shawn Achor. In the book, he describes three different ways that people earn a living – a job, a career, and a calling. Do you have a job? “A job is merely something to endure in order to get a salary.” Do you show up at work, do enough to get by, collect your paycheck, and go home? Do you have a career? “A career is work that gives you prestige or position within society.” Does your work allow you to feel important in your personal life? Do you have a calling? “A calling is work that you view as integral to your identity and meaning in life.” Is your work essential to your life? Think about your current work situation, not ju

The Power of Connected

As a mere challenge to myself, I try not to reach for my phone as soon as the plane lands or when I open my eyes in the morning. But the struggle is real! I would be willing to bet that you struggle with similar things – you’re waiting for a minute too long in line, what do you do? You get a little turned around when you’re walking around town, what do you do? As much as I feel like I need a break from technology sometimes, let’s spin this around and talk about how great it is to be connected. And while I don’t always advocate for replacing face-to-face interactions, learning is one area where being connected online is very powerful. You can instantly learn from experts in your field and fro

Better Together

A critical outcome of a project kickoff is changing our pronouns – when you and me becomes we. For our projects at Advoco, the you is our customer and me is Advoco and together we deliver project success. Even better is when the you and me is our customer’s operations and maintenance organizations who for the first time consider themselves a we. The bottom line, we are better together. Whether tying Advoco to our customer’s business success or tying maintenance improvement to operations success (preferably both), this is where the magic starts and project success is more certain. As we kickoff the new year, I’m glancing in my 2018 rearview in preparation to move forward in 2019. 2018 came wi
