MOBILIZING EFFICIENCY FOR A FORTUNE 500 PHARMACEUTICAL POWERHOUSE
In pharmaceutical manufacturing, FDA compliance is critical. So when we were asked by a global pharmaceutical leader to help improve its operational performance, we knew we had to do our job without forcing an update of the customer's FDA-compliant Enterprise Asset Management system (EAM).Gaining the power of mobility without risking compliance
Working side by side with the customer's IT department, we designed and deployed a mobile handheld computing solution that extended the capabilities of the customer's existing Infor EAM Datastream 7i management system, which was already tested, compliant and familiar to users.Partnering with the customer's executive team, Advoco oversaw the requirements definition and design of the new system. Advoco then managed the implementation, conducted testing, and performed training to meet the needs of the business.
Greater efficiency, total compliance
—virtually no training required
Within 60 days, we helped launch a full mobile solution that freed users from error-prone, inflexible paper-based procedures and let them work when and where they needed to throughout the company's manufacturing facilities-with virtually no learning curve. The Advoco solution also provided real-time access to asset information and inventory data.
A healthy outcome.
Advoco's solution has had a significant and positive business impact on the customer's business. Here are the highlights:- Mobile devices now automate the creation, viewing and completion of maintenance work orders in the field to enable:
- Elimination of travel time required to/from maintenance office to pickup and drop-off paperwork
- Elimination of the need to manually fill out paperwork in the field
- Accelerated timeliness for work order information updates
- Improved quality of information to maintenance technicians in the field, so they could perform more effectively
- Higher quality data capture and elimination of mistakes caused by manual keyboard input and handwriting translations
- An optimized work management process via verification and date/time stamp for the start and completion of each work order has:
- Improved equipment work management reporting and equipment failure analysis
- Created better accountability and efficiency through time tracking of technicians work.
- "Green" business processes now enable:
- Reduction in paper usage
- Smaller carbon footprint through reduced materials usage
- Less waste throughout the business as a result of fewer errors and more work being done right the first time
And what does the customer think of our work? Glad you asked:
"Our mobile handhelds now enable us to significantly improve the productivity of our workforce by replacing paper-based processes with automated ones. For example, our workers can now manage work orders, view instructions, and book their hours right in their handheld computers. This ensures proper procedures and data quality while eliminating the need to re-enter information into Datastream 7i. And because we did not have to modify our existing Infor EAM application, we did not have to undergo further FDA validations."
"Thanks to the concerted efforts of everyone involved, Advoco wrapped up the project in mid-October - only two months after kickoff. Advoco enabled us to complete all our tasks on schedule, within budget, and in line with the quality standards we expect, which is very difficult to do in our environment" said the client IT Project Manager.
