Alexza Pharmaceuticals has developed a successful patented drug-delivery mechanism, the Staccato™ Inhaler, which is a more efficient alternative to a patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) pump. But with several products in clinical trials, Alexza required an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system that could do more than support the rapid growth driven by Staccato. The company also needed to meet FDA validation for Good Manufacturing Practices, comply with FDA regulations (Title 21, Part II), satisfy DEA standards, and fulfill Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.

Faced with these strict compliance criteria and ready to take the next step in the growth of the company, Alexza called on Advoco to find a solution that would add much-needed control over finances and manufacturing, as well as optimize use of resources.

Independent, experienced input

Advoco provided Alexza with independent support in the selection and procurement of an industrial-strength ERP system. Advoco first performed a comprehensive requirements capture by interviewing Alexza's key staff. We then conducted a thorough market analysis and prepared and circulated a customized Request for Quotations (RFQ) to vendors. After analyzing the responses, Advoco invited the short-listed vendors to present their proposals, and consulted with Alexza personnel to award the project. Advoco also assisted Alexza in pricing and contract negotiations.
